Brookye Keeney grew up in central Massachusetts. As the daughter of a watercolor artist and art educator, Mary Zywar, Brookye would spend hours creating artwork and assisting her mother during art classes at her gallery/studio.

Brookye received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in Art History from Alfred University in 2002. During her years at Alfred she tutored her peers in art history and worked at Herrick Library where she repaired and rebound books. During the summer months Brookye taught arts and crafts at her hometown recreation center and at Worcester Center for Crafts.

In July 2002 Brookye married Nick Keeney and they moved to North Carolina where Nick attended the Divinity School at Duke University. While living in North Carolina, Brookye was hired by sculptor Tinka Jordy to manage the ceramics studio for Gardendance Inc. where she learned skills in production ceramics and slip casting. In August 2003 Brookye began to teach art at St. David's Episcopal school in Raleigh, NC. She taught 7-12 grade classes including art mediums of drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and graphic design. She was also the Technical Director for the Theater Program and Yearbook Advisor for the 2005 Yearbook.

In July of 2005 Brookye and her husband moved to Upstate New York. Brookye found places within the community to teach art classes and show her artwork. She also worked as the staff artist at The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier where she painted murals and created props for exhibits in the children’s museum and taught art classes for preschool and homeschooled children. After her first son was born Brookye took a part time position teaching art to elementary students at Zion Lutheran School in Owego, NY and worked on freelance mural painting jobs. Brookye currently lives with her husband and two sons in North Eastern Pennsylvania.
